The Heaton Silver Belles

Love wrapped in Wool.

Creativity and connection all wrapped up in one! There are always silver linings amidst challenging seasons of life. For these ladies, the pandemic acted as a catalyst for bringing them closer together. Despite the various limitations that the seniors faced throughout the pandemic, they have remained steadfast in participating in their daily lives by coming up with new ways to connect and stay active. These talented ladies have years of experience being creative with wool, which was a perfect reason to put those talents to work. In the beginning, it was just a few gals that would meet up and enjoy each other’s company while crocheting or knitting. What it evolved into was a beautiful thing. The benefits are many: being of service, friendships, communication, and interaction, all of which contribute to a happy, healthy existence. The Heaton Belles have been gifted with wool from generous donations made by the Armstrong community and have forwarded their lovely lap blankets to seniors in other Retirement homes and care homes. They have also been purchased for family and friends as gifts. Where ever they end up, they are sent with a whole pile of love.

Two other Belles from Heaton Place are missing from the photo, Gwen Pipe and Elfriede Thillman! Sorry, we missed you on picture day, gals!

“I believe to be truly happy and live an honorable life, you must be in balance with all aspects of life and being of service is a big part of that balance,” says Carrie O’Neill, Resident Relations Coordinator of Heaton Place. When you choose to be of service to others and do it with significance, whether it is paying a compliment to the waitress who made sure you had everything you needed to enjoy your meal, giving of your time at a local shelter, or spending hours knitting squares to form a blanket for others to enjoy, you are offering yourself a gift – that gift is internal happiness and gratitude!

WE HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR BLANKETS!
